Climate change is one of the most important and burning issue in national and international community. In recent years, climate change over South Asian region, particularly over India has received significant importance due to enhanced occurrence of hydro-meteorological hazards namely, severe floods/droughts, tropical cyclones etc, are causing enormous loss of lives and livelihoods. However, effective disaster preparedness and response arrangements have significantly reduced loss of lives despite an increase in the number of disaster events in present climate change scenario.
In addition, Assessing vulnerability to climate change is important for defining the risks posed by climate change and provides information for identifying measures to adapt to climate change impacts. It enables practitioners and decision-makers to identify the most vulnerable areas, sectors and social groups. In turn, this means climate change adaptation options targeted at specified contexts can be developed and implemented.
In view of the above, under the umbrella Rajasthan Science Congress, AMITY COAST, AUR organizing a session on "Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation"to understand the climate change science, uncertainties, its implications on various sectors such as agriculture, biodiversity, water resources, energy and tourism etc. This symposium also bring synergies among distinguished researchers/scientists and policymakers in the area of climate change research; its vulnerability, impacts and adaptation strategies to hydro-meteorological hazards.
The main areas focused in the symposium are
a) Climate science: observational and modeling studies
b) Climate extremes over India
c) Aerosols-climate interactions
d) Climate change vulnerability assessment
e) Climate risk management.
